This section, of the Bulldog Football Website, is dedicated to the countless men, women, and children who played a part in creating our football facility in 1971. This was a project which truly was a labor of love for all involved. It was the coming together of a community to get a job done for the common good. The people involved with the facilities' construction certainly didn't help for the purpose of recognition . . . so please forgive, if your name is mentioned within this site as a contributor in this project.
The following poem, was in the initial dedication program dated September 17, 1971 and was read by Mr. Garry Geist at our State Championship Celebration on December 3, 2000. It pretty much sums up the attitude of the people who built this stadium and of their succesors who continue to make this a great school district.
THE BRIDGE BUILDER
by Ms. Wil Allen Dromgoole
An old man going a lone highway
Came in the evening cold and gray
To a chasm vast and deep and wide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim,
The sullen stream had no fears for him,
But he stopped when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Old man," said a fellow pilgim near,
"You are wasting your strength with building here;
Your Journey will end with the ending day,
You never again will pass this way,
You've crossed the chasm deep and wide,
Why build you this bridge at evening tide?"
The builder lifted his old gray head,
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm which has been as naught to me
To that fair-haired youth might a pitfall be,
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim,
Good friend, I am building the bridge for him."
